In order to make the best hitch bike rack for electric bikes you have to take some time to think about the hitch type, the rack’s load capacity, and the shape of your E-bike combined. All of these factors (like the rings from Captain Planet) come together to create the best hitch bike rack for electric bikes.
The silver lining here is that I have taken all these golden factors into consideration before creating this list, so you don’t have to worry about having to do all the hard work on your end.
It is my hope that this article will serve as a blueprint for you as you figure out what bike mount is going to work best for your bike.
10 Top Hitch Racks for Electric Bike Reviews
The next step is to show you what each of the hitch bike racks that I’ve listed has to offer. I’ll go over their positives as well as their shortcomings, so that you get a clear understanding of how they differ from each other.
1. KAC Overdrive Sports K2 2″ Hitch Mounted Electric Bike Rack
While I always wanted a quality bike rack, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn’t sure that the cost would be worth it if I wanted the quality of performance I wanted. I wasn’t sure about the KAC Overdrive Sports K2 when I first saw it despite my extensive research. After seeing this bike rack, I had all my doubts cleared up and I became a true believer.
My first reaction after getting this bike rack was to see if there was anything I could do to it. I was amazed that all the parts of the bike rack were adjustable. From the hooks to the tire trays, I was able to adjust everything to fit my electric bike. This is a game-changer for me, because I knew I wouldn’t have to replace the rack if I bought a new e-bike tomorrow.
Also, I liked how powder-coated steel was used instead of regular steel. While the powder coating may seem insignificant, it makes a significant difference in the protection of an e-bike’s body. If you aren’t familiar with powder coatings, let me tell you about them. In addition to preventing discoloration, dings, and scratches, the coating acts as a layer to prevent them from occurring.
Additionally, there is a locking mechanism for both the hooks and trays in the bike rack. Once I got everything set up, I was able to use the keys provided with the rack to lock my bike into place. This provided me with a lot of peace of mind during the long journeys I take with my electric bicycle.
In addition to the safety strap, you can also use it to prevent the e-bike from wobbling too much when it is on a hitch mount. Another safety concern for people who use hitch mounts is the visibility of the rear light. As a result of the rack obstructing the rear lights, other drivers may get tripped up. However, there is a reflector attached to this rack, which alleviates this issue.
With my 2018 Hyundai Tucson, I always had easy access to the trunk. It didn’t matter whether I tilted the rack up or down, and voila, I had access to the trunk. E-bikes are the fat kid of the biker’s block, so the tilt option makes it easy to mount the bikes.
In my opinion, the only issue that I have (still do) with this bike rack is its load capacity. It can carry up to 120 lbs. That’s 60 lbs per bike. The weight of my RadRunner 1 is around 65 pounds, so I cannot mount another RadRunner even if I wanted to. Due to its 41lbs weight, however, I was able to bring my VanMoof S3 with me.
Apart from the load capacity, there is no other blemish to the shining armor of KAC Overdrive Sports K2. In my opinion, there is no other dent in the world except that this e-bike rack will put you under a lot of financial strain. Yes, it will put a lot of strain on your wallet! But I assure you, it will be worth it!
2. Hyperax 2 E-Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Carrier
As soon as I saw my friend walking around with his bike rack like a mini suitcase like it was just another day at the office, I got curious. He was just walking around carrying the rack like it was just another day at the office.
In order to test this allegedly highly transportable e-bike rack, I borrowed it from a friend for a few weeks and then decided to get one for myself of the Hyperax 2 Hitch Mounted EBike Racks.
The standout feature of this rack, as you can see from my description of the events, is the carrying handle. It is true that none of the many electric bike racks I have used could be carried vertically, but the Hyperax was designed to be carried vertically. Thus, we had no problem taking it from the storehouse to our vehicle and vice versa in a comfortable manner.
There is a striking similarity in design between this rack and the KAC Overdrive I mentioned earlier. The foam-padded hooks, the tire trays, and the lock mechanism are all similar to the KAC Overdrive. The only difference in terms of design is the handle that is attached to the rack.
While it is very similar in design to the KAC Overdrive, it is not an exact replica of the KAC Overdrive. One of the most significant differences between the Hyperax and the Override is its load capacity which is significantly higher than that of the KAC Override. This feature is what sets it apart from the rest. Most racks have a load capacity of 120 pounds.
There is no such thing as a fat tire electric bike hitch rack that can accommodate 40lbs more than the Hyperax. This meant that I could “finally” mount my RadRunner1 and my friend’s Gazelle Ultimate C8 HMB. The load capacity alone makes this the perfect fat tire electric bike hitch rack.
Additionally, there are a number of industry-standard features when it comes to the bike trailer. It comes with a 2″ hitch receiver. The hooks and wheel trays are adjustable. As a result, I wasn’t able to move the parts around depending on the size and shape of the e-bike.
A strap is included in order to keep the tires from wobbling during use. You can wrap the strap around the tires once you have set it up.
E-bikes are expensive, so it is best to be safe than sorry. The rubberized hooks are nice, but I never put all of my faith in them. I placed microfiber cloth on top of the crossbar that would latch onto for the hooks. As well as that, I recommend you do it because rubber can come off of the crossbar of your bike when it comes into contact with it.
Hyperax Bike Rack is a great bike rack, and I don’t have any complaints about it. However, my friend who was the inspiration for me to buy this rack did complain about the inconsistency of its locking system. You will need to contact customer service if you experience trouble with the hitch and the two holders locks. The customer service team is friendly, efficient, and prompt.
3. Thule T2 Pro XT/XTR Hitch Bike Rack for E-Bike
The Thule T2 Pro Hitch Bike Rack is one of the most popular and reliable hitch bike racks on the market today. Thule has quite a reputation because of their trademark engineering. This is why I was eager to test out one of their hitch racks. For the test run, I picked the Thule T2 Pro Hitch Bike Rack.
There are several things that caught my attention regarding their racks. First of all, I was blown away by the build quality. The T2 Pro rack had a beefy body and featured black alloy as its main component. It looked sturdy from the beginning, which made me feel confident placing both my E-bikes on it.
Despite the fact that it says that the maximum load capacity of the rack is about 120 pounds, both my bikes together weighed a little bit more. I did not have any problems with the extra weight; and I expect you won’t either; although, it would be better not to exceed the 120 pound limit.
With the Tool-Free AutoAttach knob on the rack, as well as the added built-in lock cylinder, I did not have to use any wrenches or pliers in order to install or remove the rack at all. The tool-free auto-attach knob on the rack made it even easier to install and remove.
With my HitchSwitch lever, I was able to tilt the rack up or down. That’s why I liked it so much. This rack can be tilted down if you want to access your vehicle’s rear. You can also tilt it up, which will fold the entire rack up for compact storage. When I am not using the rack, I simply press the HitchSwitch lever, and voila, it becomes small once again.
As a result of this, the carrier comes with a ratcheting arm that can secure the bikes quickly and without contact with each other. The arm also includes a 24-inch security cable, which I always used to make sure that my e-bike was securely mounted to the rack. Whenever I am not using the cable, the cable retracts back into the arm for my convenience.
I was never concerned about my bikes getting into contact with one another because there was a large space between the platforms; as a result, I never had to worry about my bikes bumping into each other. The security cable on the rack, however, is quite short for some bicycles.
My experience with the rack was that installing it on my car was a piece of cake, however assembling it itself was a herculean task due to the poor instructions included with the rack. It was tough, but I managed to assemble it on my own.
However, I was very pleased with this rack, especially because of the fact that it was compatible with my E-bikes as well as my mountain bikes, downhill bikes, and fat bikes.
4. Saris Freedom Bike Rack
In spite of my apprehensions, I kept going down the premium rack lane to see where it would lead me. After cruising around for a while, I decided to park my metaphorical bike at the Saris Freedom Bike Rack station. Initially, I was very confused by the design. After a few minutes of learning the overall layout, I finally got a grasp of it.
This bike rack is different from the KAC Overdrive K2 in that it does not have hooks to support the bikes, instead, it uses ratchet straps to hold the e-bikes in place. It has a plus and a downside. The plus is that it can accommodate bikes with a lower crossbar. Although the straps aren’t as strong as the hooks, you need to drive with caution when using them.
The setup of the bike rack was as simple as plugging it into a 2′′ hitch, securing the safety pin, and there you have it. You are ready to use your bike rack in no time at all.
There are many different parts on the Saris Freedom, including the strap holders and tire trays, that can all be adjusted, just as they are on the KAC Overdrive K2. As far as the parts are concerned, there is no lock mechanism to prevent them from moving under heavy pressure; however, there is a cyclical lock system in place. It isn’t 100% reassuring, but it gets the job done.
In addition, Saris Freedom is available in two different versions. Let’s call it the basic and the evolved versions. The basic version can carry two bikes up to 120lbs. The evolved version, however, can carry up to 190lbs. The inner ring can carry the heavy adult bikes weighing up to 60 pounds each, while the outer ring can hold kid bikes up to 70 pounds. If you are planning to take a family trip with the wife and kids, the inner ring should be sufficient for carrying heavy adult bikes.
There is one major problem with the Saris Freedom Bike Rack, which is that the wheel trays are made of plastic. Even though the entire body of the rack is made from steel, the wheel trays are made from plastic, so an e-bike with big and bulky tires will cause the wheel tray to collapse.
The Saris Freedom can be regarded as a great bike rack even though there is a glaring problem with the wheel tray. Only a handful of e-bikes have an oppressively large tire. However, most have the standard size, and this hitch mount rack will be able to provide a solution for that.
5. Thule EasyFold XT 2 Hitch Bike Rack
If you have been reading till now, you should be aware that I have already talked about a Thule bike rack. It is also a good option for traveling with E-bikes if you have the EasyFold XT2 carrier. However, it is also a question as to why the previous Thule rack is at the top, whereas this one is at the bottom. Keep an eye out, because you are about to learn about it.
In terms of the build quality, both Thule hitch racks are excellent and have the ability to carry two electric bikes with ease. Despite the fact that the XT2 makes use of aluminum and plastic as its main components, I have never encountered an issue such as the hitch bend or breaking.
The rack held both my E-bikes rather easily, and I was able to load them up very easily due to the included loading ramp, as well as the fact that it could fold up for easy storage when not in use. One of the E-bikes weighed about 41 pounds and the other 65 pounds.
It is important to note that the carrier comes with two attachments that will fit with hitch receivers measuring 1.25-inches and 2-inches. Most bike racks come with one type of hitch receiver, but this one has two types.
There is a two-man requirement for the installation, especially if you are a beefcake or handy in such situations. In the event that you are familiar with how the bike works, it should take you no more than a few minutes to set it up. The good thing about the installation is that you will not need any tools for it.
As far as the bike arms are concerned, they come along with AcuTight torque knobs. By using these, you will be able to place the bike securely without wasting much time or effort. There is a small foot pedal on this rack that allows you to tilt it while it is still attached; therefore, you won’t have to detach the carrier every time you need to access the trunk.
There are certain situations in which the XT2 rack is actually better than the T2 pro due to its portability. The former is completely foldable along with a carrying handle and there are wheels to make moving the rack around even easier.
In addition, a shortcoming of the rack is that it will not be able to hold E-bikes that have fat tires. It is stated that the carrier can carry bikes with tires of 4.7 inches, but this is not true. If your bikes have fat tires, I would recommend you look into something else because the XT2 will be a complete waste of money.
6. Vibrelli Electric Bike Hitch Rack
In the past couple of years, there was a surge in bike thieves in my area. Many of my friends, as well as people I knew, lost some of the most expensive bikes. This almost made me wet my pants because I too have some very expensive bikes, which I have held dear to my heart. At that time, I decided I needed something to secure my bicycles and that something came to me as a blessing in the form of the Vibrelli Bike Hitch Rack that I had chosen.
In order to understand the compatibility functions of the rack, I will be referring to the fact that I am using a 2018 Hyundai Tucson with a 2-inch hitch receiver. The receiver was perfectly compatible with the rack’s hitch tube. Nevertheless, it is very likely that RVs, trailers, or Class B vehicles will not be compatible with the rack.
In terms of bike compatibility, the rack is pretty much capable of holding any type of bicycle. There is no need to worry if your bike is a road bike, a mountain bike, fat tire bike, or an E-bike. The carrier is able to carry up to two bikes and has a maximum weight capacity of 130 pounds. Make sure that neither of the bikes weighs more than 65 pounds each.
A quick-release pedal is provided to enable you to tilt the rack down or fold it up. With just the press of your leg, you will be able to have a smooth parking experience as well as easy access to the trunk.
In contrast, the rack features an anti-wobble hitch that ensures that the carrier is securely attached to the vehicle at all times. Once I locked it on my vehicle, I knew that only my key would be able to open it. This made sure there was no funny wobbly business when I was driving soundly while carrying my E-bikes behind me.
I am pleased to inform you that I purchased this rack for the first time because the carrier’s wheel cradles have ratchet straps that keep the bike firmly in place. In addition, the rack has three locking mechanisms that I considered to be the most important feature because they always kept my bikes safe from potential thieves.
There was a time when I was a bit irritated when the pointy part of the locking arm left a scratch on one of my bicycles. Well, I had the upper hand here because I wasn’t careful enough. It could easily have been avoided if I had used some safety pads instead.
In spite of this, I have never been concerned about the security of my bikes while using the rack on account of the numerous safety mechanisms and the included safety strap. It is very comforting to know that your bikes are always safe and sound while they are in the back of the rack.
7. Upright 2 Mountain Hitch Bike Rack
As a good choice if you are running low on cash or just want to test out a bike rack before you purchase one, the Upright 2 Mountain Hitch Bike Rack, can be a good choice for you. When I purchased this hitch rack for the first time, I thought it would not last for more than a few months, but guess what? It did last for a couple of years and I was able to get my money’s worth.
In light of the price of the rack, I expected it to come with an aluminum body. However, I was surprised to see that it had durable metal tubing built into it. The steel construction guaranteed the longevity of the carrier. I did not come across any accidents where my e-bike would tear apart the rack, and I also did not see any corrosion whatsoever.
There are chocks included in this rack, unlike the last few racks that I have used. You will be able to adjust the chocks according to the size of your bike. Adjusting them is relatively straightforward, and they are pretty much a good fit for any bike size. My goal is to place a couple of different bikes there and I haven’t encountered any problems so far.
I would recommend not placing more than one e-bike on the rack since they are usually heavier than mountain bikes. In the case of e-bikes, I would recommend that you not place more than one e-bike on the rack. You will not have to worry about your bikes coming in contact with the rear of the car as there is a good hitch distance between the rack and the vehicle.
In addition to that, the hitch itself is compatible with 2-inch receivers, which makes the rack suitable for a lot of different vehicles, including truck hitches, SUVs, and vans. However, the main tubing on the rack is straight; thus, you should ensure that the ground clearance of your vehicle is sufficient.
This hitch rack requires very little assembly and it can be installed on any vehicle that has a hitch. However, there is no instruction manual included with the package so if you are not handy with these kinds of things, you might have trouble installing it.
The one thing that I almost forgot to mention is that you will not be able to fold the rack when it is not being used. You will need to completely disassemble it in order to store it compactly. However, once you get used to the ins and outs of the rack, it doesn’t take too long to disassemble it.
I would say that this rack is a great budget hitch bike rack for e-bikes and I think it is unquestionably a very good choice.
8. BUZZRACK E-Scorpion H1 1-Electric Bike Platform Hitch Rack
On the road to finding the best hitch bike rack for electric bikes, a friend of mine suggested I take a look at the BUZZRACK E-Scorpion H1 carrier while I was looking for the best hitch bike rack for electric bikes. In spite of the fact that I already had my eye on another rack, I got this rack and guess what? I don’t regret buying this beast of a hitch rack ever since.
It has been my experience that most bike racks come with at least two chambers. It is not like I take both my electric bikes whenever I travel, so it feels better to have the option than not to have it. However, this carrier doesn’t have the same features. Due to the fact that I only took one of my bikes with me, it didn’t really matter much.
Despite this fact, I knew the E-Scorpion H1 hitch rack would be sturdy and would last for a very long time as soon as I saw it. It weighs about 32.6 lbs, which is quite light for a steel rack. Generally, rugged build quality means a heavier product, but that is not the case with this rack.
Also, since the main tubing on the hitch is angled upward, you won’t have to worry about tail strike at the bottom of your rack due to the fact that the hitch is compatible with 2-inch receivers. In spite of the fact that the rack is said to have a total weight capacity of 66lbs, it still held up quite well with an e-bike weighing 72lbs on it.
Unlike many other carriers of this type, the wheel tray is foldable, which allows for easier storage when not in use. In addition, there are some small wheels underneath the rack for easy transport. Although you might not need them because the carrier itself is so lightweight, it is still nice to have them for convenience in the future.
After releasing the front handle of the rack, when I wanted to use the tailgate of my vehicle, the rack automatically tilted away with no muss, no fuss, so that I could use the tailgate of my vehicle. Furthermore, the rack has adjustable uprights, so it can be adapted to accommodate bikes with different frame sizes and styles.
Whenever I went on a trip, I always made sure to take along anti-sway holders and ratchet straps that will further secure the rack’s hold on my bike. I always used them to make sure that I remained on the safe side whenever I went on an excursion.
As of now, I haven’t come across any major cons regarding the E-Scorpion H1 hitch rack. Sure, it would have been preferable if it had two chambers, but beggars can’t be choosers. It is quite pricey, so make sure that you are willing to spend that much on a hitch rack before making a purchasing decision.
9. Venzo 2 Bike Platform Style e-Bike Carrier
It was only after spending a considerable amount of money on bike racks that I decided to go for something that was more budget-friendly, which is when I came across the Venzo 2 Bike Bicycle Platform Style Carrier. I purchased this one for my skinny mountain bikes, but somehow, somehow, it held up when I went for a ride with my E-bikes as well.
In doing my research before I purchased the carrier, I found out that it has been tested in many ways, such as straps pulling, driving, swinging, and vibration testing. It says that the rack passed all of these tests, including the TUV testing with flying colors.
The last two racks I bought didn’t come with clamps or tire holders, but this one came with them. In addition to my two E-bikes, both of which weigh over 40 pounds, I have two other E-bikes as well. I was hoping that the rack wouldn’t be able to handle any one of my E-bikes, but much to my surprise, the rack managed to hold my VanMoof S3.
After the trip, I didn’t put both of my e-bikes in there, but I did place one e-bike and one mountain bike, both of which weighed about 70lbs together, so there were no sign of cracks or bends after the trip.
Moreover, the clamps and wheel holders are adjustable, so you will be able to adjust them according to the wheel size of your bike, which means that you can adjust them according to your bike’s wheel size. Additionally, the clamps ensure that your bike is safe while you drive it. They are all covered in a foam layer, which makes sure the entire frame as well as the clamps are protected from scratches or streaks.
In addition to that, the arms on the rack are also foldable, so you can use them to access the rear of your vehicle or to store them compactly in a small garage or when you don’t want to dismantle your rack. Either way, it comes in handy when you don’t want to remove your rack.
I think that one of the most important downsides of this rack is that there is no way to lock the hitch to your car. You can attach it firmly, but with the right tools, anyone can remove it. The hitch pin is a bit tight and I had to use tools to remove the rack every time I wanted to remove it.
It is also difficult to place my bike on the rack because I have to remove the hook every time I want to do so. I find it a bit annoying at first because there is no instruction that explains how to do this. After you have done this a few times, you will be used to it and it will seem like a breeze.
I found the hitch rack to be solid, budget-friendly, and easy to use. However, if you are planning on using more than one e-bike or one with a big fat tire, I would not recommend purchasing the Venzo 2. If you are not planning to use more than one e-bike, then I recommend purchasing the Venzo 2.
10. ECOTRIC Universal 4 Bicycle Hitch Bike Carrier
I’ve left the best for last. Why do I say that? Well, first of all, it’s quite affordable, sturdy, and it will hold not just one, but up to four bikes at the same time. In the beginning, I was concerned about the quality of the Universal 4 Bicycle Hitch Bike Rack when I purchased it. It was a bit expensive, yet it had four platforms for bikes, so I was a bit concerned about it.
My concern about its quality did not last for long. At first, I took it out for a trial run with just one of my bicycles. The information listed on the website mentioned that each of the platforms could hold a maximum load of 50 lbs. It was a VanMoof S3 that I used for the trial run, which weighed around 41 pounds. The rack did not seem to have a problem holding it at all.
As a result, I tried two bikes and then four. However, I made sure not to use a bike that weighed more than 50 pounds. My observation was that while attaching the four E-bikes to the rack, the carrier was able to hold them all comfortably, despite the fact that they differed greatly in style, because of the adjustable wheel holders and top clamps. As a matter of fact, the maximum width of the wheel holders is 3.25 inches.
It does not matter if the bicycles are of the same height or a different height as the hooks are not connected to one another and can be moved independently, so there was no need to worry about the bikes being scratched. The hooks also came with padding that protected the bikes from being scratched.
However, the rack is made of heavy-duty steel and I have yet to see any signs of rust on the rack. Given the price of the carrier, I was pretty impressed with the overall build quality. I have already mentioned that I am the owner of a 2018 Hyundai Tucson, and I did not have any problems attaching the rack to my vehicle.
Ensure that your vehicle is equipped with a 2-inch hitch receiver before installing the rack. It is important to keep in mind that the main tubing of the rack is straight, so if you wish to avoid tail strikes, make sure your vehicle has a high ground clearance. In addition, the turn knobs are quite frustrating to turn at first, and if you do not have a slip lock plier, this will seem like a herculean task at first.
My last warning to you is regarding the folding system. Unless you completely remove it, you will not be able to fold the rack; so, it will stay out all the time unless you remove it completely. The rack has some flaws to it, but it is still a great rack at a great price. You will not be able to find something as good at this price.
Buying Guide for Electric Bike Hitch Rack
There is no doubt that the hitch mount e-Bike racks I have listed above are the result of extensive research, use, and my own experience. After trying out many of these racks, I found a pattern that led me to a map of sorts. The map shows one the way to understanding the difference between a hitch bike rack for electric bikes and a garbage rack. It’s now time for me to show you what’s most common to victory, which is to outline the key concerns that need to be addressed before you decide what bike rack is going to be used.
The key to success is flexibility
There is a simple equation here. More flexibility = more options for bicycle storage. In other words, the basic premise isn’t complicated. Every E-bike hitch rack should have a flexible mechanism. But how can you tell if a rack is flexible?
As a starting point, take a look at the bike holders. Does the rack use straps or padded hooks? Both options provide a great deal of flexibility. Make sure the hooks or straps are adjustable. If the rack moves, how much? Is it able to reach low crossbars? Or does it only support high crossbar e-bikes?
As you look at the rack for the next time, you will want to think about the wheel trays. Ask yourself the same questions except for the last two. You should also add this question to your list: Can the wheel trays hold a variety of tire types? Is there enough movement on the wheel trays to accommodate e-bikes and kid bikes (you know, just in case)?
If you have answered all these questions, you will have a clearer picture of the flexibility parameter of a bike rack for electric bikes once you have answered all these questions.
A few extra features that you should consider
There are many people who do not look out for quality-of-life features in bike racks. I suggest otherwise. Sometimes these little features seem insignificant but that’s an oversight. Maybe the added feature just saves you ten seconds if you add them all up. Taking 10 seconds in 100 days, you save 16 minutes from your life, and that amount keeps increasing.

Let me digress a bit. What are the extra features that you want in your next smartphone?
- Lock mechanism
- A ramp to mount bikes
- Foldable rack
- Carrying handle
- Reflector lights for better rear light visibility
There are several features that you should take note of because having at least some of them will pay big dividends in the future. You may not notice the benefits right away, but even the seemingly less important features will make your life easier.
The ease of use and accessibility
There’s no way I like to waste hours assembling a bike rack. I don’t like to waste hours on it. For me, it has to be well-designed and easy to put together. Despite the fact that you don’t mind spending some extra time assembling a rack, you shouldn’t choose a complex system. The reason is that a momentary lapse in attention while setting up the rack can result in the rack falling apart before you realize it.

In other words, make sure you get a bike rack that is easy to assemble. The racks I have listed here should take you no longer than 7-10 minutes to put together. And I am exaggerating the time frame here. Once you get used to it, you should have it up and running in less than five minutes.
Lastly, it is a must-have to have a standard tilt mechanism. While you can survive with a complex design, you do not want to be shut out of the trunk of your vehicle. Hitch mount racks are very popular because they provide easy access to the trunk of your vehicle. It is important to note that all high quality racks should have a tilt mechanism that will make it possible to do the same. There are also racks that can swing away. It is very easy to access cargo when you slide a swing away hitch rack.
It is important that manufacturers provide support for their products
What kind of warranty does the manufacturer offer on the racks they sell?
In order to answer this question quickly and simply, you can check up on the warranty provided with the racks. Both the KAC Overdrive and the Saris Freedom racks come with a limited lifetime warranty. Chances are you will never have to worry about the warranty at all.
If you have a decent rack in the bag, you can be sure that you will have a good night’s sleep. You’ll go to bed knowing that you have a safety net in case something goes wrong with the rack that you spent hundreds of dollars on.
As part of your considerations, you should also keep in mind customer support. Bike racks often have minor, but annoying problems. For example, the screw could not be removed or the knob had fallen off. In such cases, the support team would provide you with guidance on how to fix the problem or send you replacement parts.
It doesn’t matter what the case may be, you won’t have to worry about being stranded with no one to help you.
Load Capacity and Compatibility with E-Bikes
You can determine if your e-bike is compatible with the rack by looking at the load capacity. When you first look at a rack, one of the first things that you notice is how much weight it can hold. Depending on the type of e-bike you have, you have to choose a rack that will fit the bike you have. The hitch mount platform rack is always my favorite option over the non-hitch bike rack.
The total weight can be carried by two RadRunner 1 e-bikes, so the total weight will come to 130lbs. The KAC Overdrive and Saris Freedom are capable of carrying 120lbs, so you can see what’s going on here, right? Do the math, and get an idea of how the rack and the e-bike work together.
Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to bike racks, people who are new to the concept often encounter the same questions. If you fall into this category, here are the answers to some of the most common questions that users have regarding bike racks.
What is the best way to carry an e-bike around with you?
When it comes to transporting bikes, there are numerous ways to go about it. If you don’t have a car, you can use the train or truck if you don’t own a car. If you own a four-wheeler that’s not a truck, you’ll need bike racks. There are different kinds of bike racks, each one suited for a certain purpose.
You can carry your electric bike from one place to another with a hitch mount bike rack. Hitch mount bike racks are capable of handling e-bikes of different weights, and they are more stable and secure than other alternatives. That is the reason why hitch-mounts are considered to be the best bike rack for electric bikes as they are able to handle a lot of weight.
Would it be possible to put an electric bike on a normal bike rack?
It is possible, but it is not recommended to mount an e-bike on a trunk-mount bike rack. For example, you might be liable to have an accident if you do. Trunk racks are not able to handle the weight of an e-bike, and this also puts the trunk of your car at risk, as well as the roof mount. In summary, hitch mounts are the safest way to make sure your e-bike and car are safe.
Is it necessary to have a special bike rack for electric bikes?
You don’t need anything special. You are going to need hitch mount bike racks. Trunk, roof and spare tire racks will not be able to handle the weight of e-bikes. So, hitch mount bike racks are the best choice.
There are many reasons why hitch-mounted racks are the best choice for electric bikes.
Since hitch-mount racks are very heavy, they are capable of carrying the relatively higher weight of e-bikes due to their high load capacity. Apart from their load capacity, hitch-mount racks are also very stable. Considering how expensive electric bikes are (even the cheaper ones), the stability provided by hitch racks makes them the best choice for electric bikes.
I would like to conclude by saying that
There is no doubt that carrying an e-bike with a rack can be challenging, and it’s completely understandable. E-bikes can be quite expensive, and no one wants their hard-earned green to be ruined due to a rack failure. In order to keep your e-bike safe, you either have to ride it around your neighborhood and never take it on adventurous trips or make use of an electric bike hitch rack. Period.
You can carry an e-bike without ever having to worry about it if you use a top shelf bike rack. I’ve done it. There’s no reason why you can’t do the same. I did it. I don’t see any reason why you can’t do it too.
If you understand your e-bike’s needs, you won’t have any trouble finding a rack that will work for you from the racks I’ve listed here. All of the racks I’ve listed here are clear winners. In my opinion, if you want to trust my words, I’d suggest you invest in the KAC Overdrive K2. It is capable of taking care of a wide range of e-bikes.
There is no doubt that the KAC Overdrive rack is an excellent product. It may be slightly more expensive than most racks but I still recommend it because you do not want to trash your expensive e-bike just to save a few dollars on the rack.
